சிங்கம் ஒரு காட்டு மிருகம். அதை மிருகங்களின் இராசா என்றும் கூறுவர்.
அது தாவர உணவு உண்ணும், மான், மரை, முயல் போன்ற சாதுவான மிருகங்களை வேட்டையாடி அவற்றின் மாமிசத்தை விரும்பி உண்ணும்.
ஒரு காட்டில் வாழ்ந்து வந்த சிங்கம் ஒவ்வொருநாளும் பல மிருகங்களை வேட்டையாடி தின்று வந்தது.இதனை கண்ட மற்றைய மிருகங்கள் மிக்க பயத்துடன் வாழ்ந்து வந்தன.
சிங்கம் இப்படி பல மிருகங்களை ஒவ்வொருநாளும் கொல்வதால் தாம் வெகு சீக்கிரமே இறந்துவிடுவோம் என எண்ணி அவை எல்லாம் ஒன்றுகூடி ஆலோசனை செய்தது.
சிங்கத்தை எதிர்த்து அவைகளால் போராட முடியாது என்பது அவைகளுக்குத் நன்கு தெரியும்.
அதனால் அவை சிங்கத்திற்கு இரையாக தினம் ஒரு மிருகமாக போவதற்கு தீர்மானித்தன.
எல்லா மிருகங்களும் சிங்கத்தின் குகைக்குச் சென்று தாம் எல்லோரும் சேர்ந்து ஒரு முடிவுக்கு வந்துள்ளதாகவும். அதனால் சிங்கராசா இரை தேடி அலையத் தேவையில்லை. நாமே தினம் ஒருவராக உங்கள் குகைக்கு இரையாக வருகின்றோம் என தெரிவித்தன.
அத்துடன் நீங்கள் பல மிருகங்களை ஒரு நாளில் கொன்றால் நாங்கள் எல்லோரும் சீக்கிரமே இறந்து விடுவோ. பின்பு உங்களுக்கு உணவுகிடையாமல் நீங்களும் சீக்கிரமே இறந்து விடுவீர்கள் என்றன, இதனை கேட்ட சிங்கராசாவுக்கு மகிழ்ச்சி பொங்கியது.
அன்றிலிருந்து ஒவ்வொரு மிருகம் சிங்கத்திற்கு இரையாகச் சென்றது,
ஒருநாள் ஒரு முயலின் முறை வந்தது. முயல் சிங்கத்தின் குகைக்கு சிறிது தாமதமாகச் சென்றது.
அதனால் சிங்கம் மிகுந்த கோபத்துடன் இருந்தது.
சிங்கம் முயலைப் பார்த்து நீ ஏன் தாமதமாகினாய் என கர்ச்சித்தது.
அதனைக் கேட்ட முயலார் நடுக்கத்துடன் “சுவாமி” நான் வரும் வழியில் வேறொரு பெரிய சிங்கம் என்னை பிடிக்க கலைத்தது. நான் பதுங்கி இருந்துவிட்டு இப்பதான் வாறேன் என்றது.
என்னைவிட பெரிய சிங்கம் இந்தக் காட்டில் இருக்கிறதா? என்று இறுமாப்புடன் கேட்டது.
அதற்கு “ஆம் சுவாமி” வாருங்கள் காட்டுகின்றேன் என்று சிங்கத்தை அழைத்துச் சென்று ஒரு கிணற்றைக் காட்டி இதற்குள்தான் அந்த பெரிய சிங்கம் இருந்தது என்று கூறியது.
அதனை நம்பிய சிங்கம் கிணற்றை எட்டிப் பாத்தது. அப்போது சிங்கத்தின் நிழல் (பிம்பம்) வேறொரு சிங்கம் கிணற்றினுள் இருப்பது போல் தெரிந்தது. சிங்கம் அதைப் பார்த்து கர்ச்சித்தது.
பிம்பமும் கர்ச்சித்தது. சிங்கத்திற்க்கு ஆத்திரம் பொங்கியது.
இதோபார் உனக்கு ஒரு முடிவு கட்டுகிறேன் என கூறிக்கொண்டு கிணற்றினுள் பாய்ந்தது.
சிங்கம் கிணற்று நீரில் மூழ்கி மாண்டது.
முயலின் சமயோசித முயற்சியால் மற்றைய மிருகங்களும் காப்பாற்றப்பட்டன.
ஆங்கிலம்
The lion is a wild animal. They are called the king of animals.
They eat plant-based food as well as animals like deer, rabbits, and peacocks.
A lion that lived in a forest used to come and eat various animals every day. Seeing this, the other animals lived in fear.
The lion killed many animals every day like this. Due to this, the other animals realized that they couldn’t fight against the lion and accepted their fate.
Because of this, they used to become animals like lions in the daytime and come to the lion in the evening. They used to become humans themselves in the daytime and come to the lion, saying that we also came to you like lions. Hence we don’t need to search for a lion to eat us.
With this, you will quickly die if you kill many animals in a day. Then you will also die quickly without getting food. This is what the lion said to Singarasa.
From that day on, every animal went to the lion as food.
One day a fox came. A fox, with its tail bowed down, came to the lion.
So the lion with great anger asked, “Why have you come like this, fox?”
To this, the fox replied with humility, “Yes, sir, I have come to tell you that I am a big lion. I came by becoming a lion in the forest. But now, I realized that you are the great lion here.”
With this, I have accepted that I will become a small animal in a day. A fox with its head bowed down spoke with humility.
So I am giving you a solution. Then the fox dipped its tail in the lake and came.
Seeing the reflection of another lion in the lake, the lion became very angry.
The lion attacked its reflection. So the lion’s reflection splashed into the water.
The lion killed the reflection in the water by attacking it.
Hence, I am making a decision for you. I will go away by accepting that you are a big lion. Then the fox swam in the water and crossed to the other side.
The fox passed away from that day on. Then all the animals also accepted the lion as their king.
Hence, the lion used to kill the animals and eat them. The other animals were protected due to the help of the fox.
